en computerschaak
On August 10, 2008, Ruud Martin, Luuk Hofman, Rob van Son, Pieter Bleeker and the undersigned were invited to Hans van Mierlo's house in Dussen. Just a pleasant tournament with only chess programs running under the hardware of Phoenix Chess Systems.
At the opening of the tournament Ruud Martin tells a nice anecdote about his personal meeting with (former world champion) Vladimir Kramnik at DGT (Digital Game Technology) in Deventer. At the January 9, 2008 introduction of the Phoenix Chess Systems Revelation, Kramnik played a few moves on this brand new chess computer developed in cooperation with DGT. Vladimir clearly had no desire to measure his strength against the world's most powerful chess computer. Instead, he did play a few obligatory opening moves for demonstration purposes. Of course that is very special and pictures were made of it which Ruud was allowed to post on his website.
And so the tournament began in Hans' tastefully decorated living room. We had a very pleasant afternoon and we enjoyed our beloved chess computers and especially all the deep work of calculation they showed. For tournament results and the like, see the web links below from Luuk Hofman's photo archive.

Rectification!
The video recordings were made by Luuk Hofman at the time and I once received a copy of his recordings from him. The copyright of this video belongs to Luuk Hofman and I included his video material in my database (and YouTube) without his permission. Not correct of me, but without malicious intent. I had looked at Luuk on his website at his online video material and there was no mention of this video and did not give it any further thought. The only thing I had done was ask permission from Hans van Mierlo to post the video online. I got that permission from him.
Sorry Luuk, my sincere apologies for my thoughtless behavior…
With best regards from Hein Veldhuis, dated January 1, 2025
