Eric Hallsworth was born in 1942 and came across chess computers in the early 1980s. For him, the starting point was to classify those chess computers as best as possible according to the correct playing strength. In 1985 Eric began publishing a computer chess news sheet, which in June 1990, received the addition ''Selective Search''.
I always got a smile on my face when I saw a new ''Selective Search'' in an envelope on the doormat. His last magazine was published in the winter of 2013. Actually unimaginable to publish a magazine for more than 25 years, every two months, really an admirable achievement! In his latest issue (Selective Search, issue 166), the front cover features an old photo of Hallsworth from 1993. That photo is easy to recognize, as we see it again in the video below.
I gave some videos to programmer Ed Schröder (Rebel) as a gift 12 years ago. This video was among them, but remarkably it does not show the intire video recording. Now that I want to include the video in my database, I am of course showing the full recording with the original title: ''Computer guru Eric Hallsworth surveys the chess computer scene''.
